The Indian Defense Ministry has approved the purchase of 240 air bombs from Russia. This is reported on Tuesday, January 2, RIA Novosti with reference to a copy of the agency’s statement.
As noted, the purchase must be made from the Russian company Rosoboronexport. On bombs plan to spend more than 12.5 billion rupees, that is almost 200 million dollars.
“These bombs, which are part of the category of precision weapons, are already being used by the Indian Air Force. This deal is designed to fill the shortage of precision weapons in the arsenal of the Indian Air Force, as well as enhance their offensive ability, “the report said.
Indian Defense Minister Nirmala Sitharaman also approved the purchase from Israel of 131 missiles of the Barak anti-aircraft missile system and related equipment for more than $ 70 million.
In November 2017, the Indian Air Force, with the participation of the Russian side, first launched the BrahMos supersonic missile from the Su-30MKI airplane. The tests were recognized as successful, the projectile hit the target, a surface ship in the Bay of Bengal.
A month before that, it was reported that in India they refused to cooperate with Russia in creating a new fifth-generation fighter. The reason is the backwardness of technology and the inability of a promising product to compete with the American F-35.
