Armenian MPs staged a fire show in Parliament

the Deputies of the Armenian National Assembly from the opposition faction “EFC” (“Exit”) Ararat Mirzoyan and Lena Nazaryan lit in the meeting room of the Parliament of the three fires. About it reports “Radio liberty” (local service of “Radio Liberty”).

As noted “Interfax” MPs have objected to the possible appointment as the new Prime Minister of the Republic of Serzh Sargsyan, which from 2008 to 2018 was President. “We call on everyone to gather on April 13 at the Freedom square and to prevent the possible Premiership of Serzh Sargsyan to end the reign of Republican party,” said Mirzoyan from the rostrum of the Parliament.

Speaker of Parliament Ara Babloyan called such actions unacceptable. “You threatened the safety of the employees of the Parliament,” he said.

Vice-speaker of the Parliament Eduard Sharmazanov noted that “the show did not happen.” “Open the door to get some fresh air. Let the people see who is doing what in the Parliament,” he demanded.

Mirzoyan told “Radio liberty” that the smoke was harmless, and the goal of MPs was to draw attention to the initiative “My step” — the March of the Armenian opposition, the protesters because of the appointment of Sargsyan as Prime Minister.

Elections of the new head of the government of Armenia will be held in Parliament on 17 April. The right to nominate the candidate for this position will take advantage of the ruling Republican party, headed by Sargsyan. According to the introduced in 2015 to the country’s Constitution amendments, all real power in Armenia will belong to the Prime Minister and the President, who on 9 April became Armen Sarkisian, will remain public functions.
