Georgia has fulfilled all the items on his “homework”, including carried out the necessary reforms and have fulfilled a variety of requirements for NATO accession. This was stated by the President of Georgia Giorgi Margvelashvili on Wednesday in a speech at Washington’s conservative Heritage Foundation, writes “Kommersant”.
Margelashvili believes that the NATO countries came to a consensus, and Georgia “there are only strong supporters of joining the Alliance.” However, he noted that “there is a group of countries which believes that we should take it slow”. According to the President of Georgia, the negotiations on joining the Alliance are still underway.
At the end of 2017, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said about the unpreparedness of Georgia and Ukraine to join the Alliance. The Russian foreign Ministry believe, that the further deepening of cooperation between Georgia and NATO is a threat to the security of the Caucasus.
